Four Essential Guidelines for Painting Your Interior Space

Painting your interior walls can be a challenging undertaking. If you are not experienced in the task, you might end up with unattractive walls with an unpleasant finish. In addition, poor painting techniques will increase the risk of premature peeling and general damage of the coatings. Under ideal circumstances, you should engage experienced painters for the work. If you are set on painting your own interior walls, you should use the tips below for a professional finish.

Clean the Interior Walls

You should never paint over dirty or oily walls. If you do, the fresh coat of paint will peel off easily, wasting your efforts. Therefore, if you are planning on painting over a previously coated wall, you should use a heavy-duty cleaning solution intended for pre-paint preparation purposes. You can also use a de-glossing product clean varnished, enamelled and painted walls for better adhesion.

Prime the Surface

It is possible to paint walls without priming. However, the results will not be ideal. The finish will be blotchy, and the sheen will most likely be inconsistent. Ideally, you should conduct repairs on your walls if there are holes and cracks to be filled. Then, you should apply a compatible primer on the wall. The material will create a smooth and uniform surface. Therefore, there will be no inconsistencies after painting. This practice can also increase the adhesion of the paint.

Paint the Trim

You should paint the trim in your space first before painting the walls. The trim can be difficult to paint due to its narrow structure. Therefore, a lot of paint will end up on the adjacent walls. You can prevent the detriments of this occurrence by painting the trim and then sealing it with painter's tape. After that, you can paint your walls without concern. If some trim paint gets on the wall, you can conceal it with your wall paint.

Mix the Paint

The colour of paint can vary slightly from one container to another. Therefore, if you decide to paint your walls using one can of paint at a time, the area of transition might be apparent. The small discrepancy in the hues can have significant impact on the room. You can avoid this problem by mixing your cans of paint in a single bucket to make a uniform mixture. Once you paint, there will be complete uniformity. If you are uncertain about the quantity to prepare, you should add more. If there is leftover material, you can store it in the cans.

About Me

Having building work carried out on the building you use to run a business can be very stressful. However, it doesn't need to be this way. By working closely with the contractors, you can ensure that they follow the designs and plans and that they only use the highest quality materials. When I had to call in a team of contractors to work on my office block, I was super worried. However, the team of construction guys were really great and they actually took the time to explain exactly what they were doing and why. I hope this blog is helpful.
